⚠ Note: When creating PDFs, it’s important to make them accessible to people who may be using screen readers or other accessibility tools. You can create and verify PDF accessibility in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC; we will be working on a separate guide on how to create accessible PDFs.
If you wish to upload a new file that does not already exist in your website’s library, follow these instructions:
- In the Body section of the page’s editing panel, place your cursor in the location in your text where you’d like the PDF to go. Select the Add Media function (the tiny square that looks like a picture of mountains).
- In the Upload tab, select Choose File.
- Follow the prompts to find the PDF file on your computer. When you find the file, click on it.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Submit button. The file will be placed exactly where your cursor was located, and will be automatically formatted as a hyperlink (blue text):
- The system will automatically use the file name as the link text on the page; this may be confusing or misleading to visitors, so you will need to update the link text to include the title of the document rather than simply the file name.You will also need to add “(PDF)” after the document title so that the purpose of the link is clear to all of your users.
To edit the link text, click on the Switch to plain text editor link below the content editing panel.
- Find the text that matches the filename of the PDF you have uploaded (“Incoming MA Student Checklist.pdf” in the example above) and type and delete text as needed.
- Once you’ve completed your changes, click on the Switch to rich text editor link to return to the content editing panel.
