Add a Publication to a Faculty Profile

To add a new publication (article, book, web project, etc.) to a person’s profile and to the Publications directory, hover over Content in the black header bar, then hover over Add Content and click on Publications. A new content-editing panel will open.

⚠ Note: You can also edit a Publication the same way you would any other page: navigate to that page (either through the navigation menu or by using the Search bar), and click on the Edit tab.

Fill out the fields as follows:

Basic Information

  1. Enter the publication Title. This field is mandatory. Leaving this blank means you won’t be able to save or publish the page.
  2. Select the publication Type.
  3. Select one or more Authors, Co-Authors, Editors or Co-Editors from the provided lists – these are the people who currently have profile pages on your website. A link to this publication will automatically display on the person’s profile page.
  4. Creating a Reviewed Publication page? Enter the name of the author or editor who wrote the publication that someone associated with your department has reviewed.
(e.g. if U of T Professor Jane Doe reviewed a book written by Harvard’s John Smith, select Doe’s name in the Author list above, and add Smith’s name in the Reviewed Publication Authors or Editors field.
  5. Enter a publication Year.
  6. Enter the publication’s Publisher. (e.g., University of Toronto Press)
  7. Fill in the ISSN/ISBN. (Not sure where to find this? Check out the publisher’s website, or search for the title on Indigo, Amazon or Google.)
  8. Fill in the Purchase Link if available. This lets users access the text online or in print, paid or free. Make sure to enter the full URL (i.e., http://www.utpress.utoronto.ca/book-name).
    • If the publication is a book or chapter in a book, link to the publisher rather than a large retailer like Amazon.
    • Can’t find the publication in the publisher’s online store? Link to any online retailer that sells the book.
    • If the publication is a journal article or book review, link to the volume or issue of the journal.
    • Found the publication online for free (i.e., in a magazine or newspaper article, PDF, etc.)? Link to that URL.
  9. Enter a Book Name if the publication is a chapter or article that appears in a book, or if it is a book that was reviewed by your department’s faculty member. If the publication is a book, there’s no need to enter the title again. It will have been captured in the Publication Title field.
  10. If the publication is a journal article enter the Journal Name, Volume Number and Issue Number in the appropriate fields.

Detailed Information

  1. Enter a Meta Description. This text displays under the page title on search engines like Google and should describe your page in less than 155 characters.
  2. Enter a Description of the publication. Article abstracts or book synopses are great places to start.

Image

  1. Upload a Cover Image with a minimum size of 307 x 460 pixels. If the publication is a book or chapter in a book, try to find and download an image of the book cover from either the publisher’s site or a third-party seller site. It’s OK to use the image since we are publicizing the product. If the publication is a journal article, you can either download and use the cover/logo of the journal, or an appropriate stock photo (contact us if you would like to request assistance with finding an appropriate stock photo). If there are no appropriate options, no image is required; however, including an image does make the page livelier and more engaging for readers.
  2. Click the Save As Draft or Publish button.
