Columns

Columns are a great way to highlight special content, like student or alumni testimonials, or promote important pages on your website.

  • Create a Column Section
  • Add Images to a Column
  • Delete a Column or All Columns

Create a Column Section

To add a column to a page or news story:

  1. Click on the Column icon in the editing panel.
  2. A window will pop up with several fields to fill in:

    • Column Set Title: Enter a basic title for your column set. This won’t display on your website, but Drupal needs content to have a unique ID.
    • Number of Grids: Select the number of columns you need (2, 3, 4 or 6).
    • Content1, Content2, etc.: Each box represents a column. Content1 is the first column on the left (and so on). Enter dummy text into each of the boxes. You’ll be able to add your real content, including formatting (headings, links, images, etc.), after you complete step three below.
  3. Press OK (the green button at the bottom of the pop-up window).
  4. To add content, click in the column, and start typing or pasting content, adding headings, hyperlinks, etc.

Add Images to a Column

  1. Click into the column to which you would like to add the image.
  2. Select the Add Media button.
  3. Add the image (if you’re not sure how, review our instructions for adding images in Drupal).
  4. If you’re happy with the column and are ready to publish your changes, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save or Publish.

Delete a Column or All Columns

To delete a column, you have to access the column’s properties menu. There are two ways to do this:

  1. Double-click on the column, or,
  2. Click on the column, and then click on the Column icon in the editing panel.

Once you have completed one of the steps above:

  1. Under Remove a Column:
  2. Remove this Grid Element: Delete all columns and the content in them.
  3. [Column Set Title]-grid-1: Remove first column (and so on). Please note that you should not use this option if you only have two columns; downsizing from two columns to one may break the remaining column.
