Homepage Slider

Homepage sliders are a great way to showcase important content on your website. This could be anything from bringing attention to an upcoming application deadline or showcasing a faculty member’s recent award win.

⚠ Tip: Research shows that website users tend to click on the first slide of a homepage slider. Fewer users will click on the second slide (and even fewer will click on the third and fourth). We recommend using only one slide and changing it regularly.

Edit the Homepage Slider

  1. Hover over Configuration in the black header menu at the top of the page, then hover over Web services and click on Home Page Slider. A new editing pane will open.
  2. If you’re replacing an image that has already been uploaded, click Remove. Once the image has been removed, click Browse and follow the standard Media browser prompts.

⚠ Tip: Remember to follow the recommended image dimensions (listed below each image in the Homepage Slider content editing panel) and review our tips for selecting and cropping a homepage slider image.

  1. Enter the Slide 1 Heading. Your heading should be a brief but engaging descriptive label – and only a maximum of 30 characters. E.g., Explore Graduate Studies.
  2. Enter the Slide 1 Details. This text should make visitors want to click on the slide for more information. Try to limit the text to 140 characters. E.g., We offer outstanding research opportunities and a tremendous selection of computer science courses and programs.
  3. Enter the Slide 1 URL. This is the URL of the page users will be taken to when they click on the “Learn More” button. If you are linking to a page from your own site, use a relative link (e.g., /events, not https://yoursitename.utoronto.ca/events). If you are linking to a page from a different website, use the full URL (e.g., https://www.utoronto.ca).

  1. Repeat steps two to five above if you would like a Slide 2, 3 and/or 4.
  2. Click the Save HomePage Slider button at the bottom of the page and return to the home page. Any changes will now be reflected.
