Quick Links

Quick Links are a great way to highlight the important pages your website’s users want to see. They’re located on your homepage for easy access.

What Makes a Quick Link Effective?

If you have the time, we recommend you consider how users’ needs will change throughout the year and plan how you will change your Quick Links accordingly. For example, during the graduate recruitment cycle, you could provide links to graduate course listings and program descriptions.

Add Quick Links

⚠ Note: You can add up to three Quick Links to your homepage. Because your homepage will look best with three Quick Links (instead of just one or two), we encourage you to use all three Quick Links spaces.

  1. In the black header menu at the top of each page, hover over Structure, then hover over Menus. Click on Important Link. A new editing pane will open.
  2. To add a new Quick Link click on the Add Link button in the top-right corner. A new page will open.

  1. Enter a Menu link title that is no more than 25 characters long. This is the text that will display on the Quick Link button.
  2. Enter a Path. This is the URL of the page users will be taken to when they click on the link. If you are linking to a page from your own site, use a relative link without the leading slash (e.g., events, not https://yoursitename.utoronto.ca/events or /events). If you are linking to a page from a different website, use the full URL (e.g., https://www.utoronto.ca).

  1. Click Save.

Edit Quick Links

  1. In the black header menu at the top of each page, hover over Structure, then hover over Menus. Click on Important Link. A new editing pane will open.
  2. To edit a Quick Link, find the link in the list and click Edit on the far-right side of the page.

  1. Enter a Menu link title to change the text on the Quick Link button. Limit the text to 25 characters.
  3. Ensure the box beside Enabled is checked.
  4. Click Save at the bottom of the page and return to the homepage. Any changes will now be reflected.

Reorder Quick Links

  1. In the black header menu at the top of each page, hover over Structure, then hover over Menus. Click on Important Link. A new editing pane will open.
  2. You can reorder menu items by dragging and dropping them into your preferred configuration. Here’s how:
    • Hover over the small, grey four-arrow icon located to the left of the link you would like to move. Your cursor should change from the default single arrow to a four-arrow icon.
    • Left-click on the four-arrow icon beside the page you would like to move, then, while continuing to hold down your mouse’s button, drag the page to your preferred location.
    • Release your mouse’s button.
  3. Click on Save Configuration to save your changes.

⚠ Note: When reordering Quick Links, be sure that they are all on the same level (i.e., the small, grey four-arrow icons are aligned). Otherwise, your Quick Links won’t display on the homepage.

Delete Quick Links

⚠ Tip: Rather than deleting a Quick Link, you may sometimes find it useful to instead disable it by unchecking the Enabled box, then clicking Save Configuration. This is a handy option when you know you will use the same Quick Link again in the future.

  1. In the black header menu at the top of each page, hover over Structure, then hover over Menus. Click on Important Link. A new editing pane will open.
  2. To delete a Quick Link,  find the link in the list and click Delete on the far-right side of the page.

  1. You will be brought to a new page and asked to confirm your decision. Select Confirm.
