No longer need a PDF on a web page, or want to replace it with an updated version?
If you simply highlight and delete the linked text that leads to the PDF, the document will disappear from the front end of the site, but it will remain in the document library in the back end of the site.
This means it could still be taking up space and increasing load times on your website, or could be found in a Google search. For these reasons, it is not sufficient to simply delete the PDF from the page you’re working on. You should also delete or replace the PDF in the file library.
Follow these steps:
- Click on Content in the black header menu. Then click on the Files tab in the sub-menu that appears.
- Find the file you wish to replace or delete by looking for its file name. There is currently no search function; you must look for the name of the file manually. You can sort by the files’ titles in alphabetical order by clicking on the Title column heading in the list of files.
- Once you’ve located the file, click on the Edit icon (the purple circle with a pencil in it) to the right of the name of the file.
- Click on the Choose File button below the text that says Replace File. Navigate to the desired file on your computer and upload it.
- Check the box next to Keep Original File Name to replace the file without changing the existing file’s link on your website.
- To delete the file permanently, click on the Delete icon (trash can).
